"For
I was Hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty
and
you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited
me in,
I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked
after me."
The Lord said, "Whatever you did for one of the least of these
brothers of mine,
you did for me." Matthew 25:35 & 40

The
Jerusalem Ministry Center (JMC) is a hands-on department
of the Embassy, partnering with the Church of God Ministry
to Israel.
Its
primary purpose is to fulfill Matthew 25 by helping new immigrants
as they return to this land.
We
are actually seeing Jeremiah 31 come to pass before our very
eyes;
"See
I will bring them from the land of the north, and gather them
from the ends of the earth. Among them will be the blind and
the lame, expectant mothers and women in labor; a great throng
will return. (Jeremiah 31:8)"
The
Jerusalem Ministry Center is open five days a week. Monday,
Wednesday and Friday our staff interviews new immigrants from
9-12. Tuesday and Thursday are set aside for visiting people
in need who are unable to come to the office. Many of them,
in spite of being in Israel for several years, are still struggling
with the loneliness of life in a new country. These people
are in dire need of encouragement, and our staff can step
in and minister to them in many ways.
The
JMC provides food vouchers to help people who come in requesting
money for food. Food baskets are also provided for special
occasions such as Passover, Hanukah, and Purim, and as gifts
for home visits.
Distribution
of clothing furnished by pilgrims coming to visit Israel is
a major ministry of the JMC. It is heartening to see immigrants
who come into our office with worn out shoes leave smiling
and so appreciative of their new shoes.
The
JMC stocks baby items to help expectant mothers with their
new infants. Mothers are given a diaper bag filled with various
articles needed for the new baby's arrival.

Our
staff also assists with numerous personal needs that many
of the new olim face on arrival in Israel.
These
needs include eyeglasses, hearing aids, prescriptions, dental
work and medical bills. We have even helped many of the handicapped
or seriously ill by purchasing special equipment, such as
hospital beds, special railings, and wheelchairs.
On
occasion, Israeli social workers have asked the JMC staff
to visit an immigrant who has been hurt or a family that has
lost a loved one due to a terror attack.
This
is one of the most rewarding but heart-rending ministries
that we take part in.
We
pray that our efforts can help relieve the hurt these people
are experiencing.
